CHANCEL CHOIR – FUMC Adult SATB Choir  under the direction of Kathy Lyon meets each Wednesday for a one hour rehearsal in the choir room located on the second floor of the West Wing. This choir works weekly to prepare anthems for the 10:50 a.m. traditional Sunday service. The music selections are voiced for the SATB choir and are typically considered to be of traditional text with a blended contemporary composition. This choir presents an annual Christmas Cantata in December. If you are a great singer, or just enjoy making a joyful noise unto the Lord, Chancel Choir welcomes your participation!

BELLS OF HOPE – FUMC Adult Handbell Choir under the direction of Kathy Lyon meets each Sunday afternoon for a one hour rehearsal in the church sanctuary.  The handbell music is color coded and counted for an easy read experience. If you are an accomplished musician or simply a music enthusiast, Bells of Hope will be a good fit for you. This group plays in the traditional service at various times during the fall and spring seasons with special attention given to the Advent and Christmas season.

PRAISE BAND –  coordinated by Mary Donaldson, the FUMC Praise Band meets each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. for rehearsal. A nursery is provided for rehearsals. The volunteer band leads our Contemporary Service each Sunday.

CHILDREN’S CHOIR – under the direction of Kathy Borchardt is open to children age 3 through 6th grade on Wednesday afternoons.  The children also enjoy Handbell Choir under the direction of Jennifer Fryer.  The school children are transported after school by church van/bus.  The children enjoy an after school snack, play time, choir & handbells.  Our Preschool Choir (ages 3 – 5) begins at 4:50 p.m.  Each year the choir presents a musical.  The choirs sing on a monthly basis during worship.

MUSIC IN OCTOBER

CELEBRATION RINGERS, grades third through sixth, will attend EXTREME RING at St. Paul UMC in Little Rock on November 3. Jennifer Fryer, Director, along with parent volunteers will travel up to Little Rock on Saturday morning to enjoy a full day of handbell instruction and FUN!    Our Adult Music Director, Kathy Lyon serves as the representative for the Southeast Arkansas Region on the AHMA Board.  She will also participate In this Saturday day of ringing.

On Sunday, November 11, FUMC Adult and Children’s Handbell Choirs will participate in a statewide ringing of bells to observe the 100th anniversary of the official end of World War I.  Gov. Asa Hutchinson has issued a proclamation noting Nov. 11, which is also Veterans Day, as “Bells of Peace: World War I Remembrance Day” on which bells are to be rung 11 times at 11 a.m. to remember those who served in the war and celebrate its ending.
